I just want to know what is with the retarded camera shops in East Tenn / North Carolina area wanting to charge $600 for a 580ex and telling me its $640 list so they are bending and arm back to cut me some slack with that price. I WOULD order it online but the 550 I normally use from work is checked out and I need a flash by tomorrow for work, so if I am going to break down and buy one it mights as well be the 580. Bah...the Consumer market makes me mad...

Suprisingly enough Asheville, NC has one for $470 at Ritz Camera...usually the most expensive place on the darn planet...

Damn, I buy all my gear from my local camera store. Looks like this one is really increasing their margins. Funny thta Ritz has beaten a price. (make mental note to write doen this historic date)

Yep, unless you have a long sanding relationship with a local store, the prices usually suck.

Ritz is not great but their price is what I would consider FULL retail.

B&H offer it for like $379.00. add overnite shipping and well, Ritz is looking better :)

Regards.

I think the standard price for a 550EX is around $300.

Retail shops have the right to put just about whatever price tag they want on their goods, especially if they think that their customers are "stuck" and have no other option for place to buy from. Of course, if those shops get a reputation for being "predatory" that way, they will never develop much of a long-standing customer clientele.

Our BestBuy has the 420EX "on sale everyday" for $269, $100 more than B&H. Sheezh!

Why bother when you can get it overnighted from B&H for less.

A local store here in Houston which will remain nameless, for fear of being sued, is outrageous on stuff. I seriously think they buy from B&H and re-sell it. On top of that there is the tax issue.
B&H and overnight is the way to go when you are in need.

I hear ya GenEOS I bought my nifty fifty from a shop in Houston. Needed it right away. Paid $108 for it LOL. Probably the same place. Are they the "largest selection in New and Used cameras in Texas" place? Needless to say Dell got my business for my 70-200 f4L.

It is against federal law to sell over MSRP without telling the customer that they are selling it over the list price. File a compaint with your state attorney general you can find out that list price is less than $640
