View Full Version : Need help taking Pics of children blowing out candles ...

My kids are young..i bought a canon xs, love it and am getting to learn about it. Yes i am a total beginner- I photographed my daughter blowing out the candles on her cake, the pics came out blurry (low light) but if i turned on the lights you lose the candle affect. What setting is best and should i use a tripod? any help is appreciated!

you can bump up the iso to obtain a faster shutter speed.

A tripod might help, but you probably have some motion blur from the kids, too. For something like this question, you really should post a picture & the settings you used if that exif info isn't saved with your jpg image.
Without it, you'll just have to learn more about your camera & how to get the exposure you need. My recommendation is to start with this & start planning for next years shots:
