Next week I will send three of my best nature photo's to a Nature Magazine that has a contest.
I had allready made up my mind, but last week I took a nice deer photo.
Posted the deer on this forum and after all the replies I choose the attached photo as the best.

Now I have four photo's from which but I can only send in three.
The attached photo's are confusing me, and I wonder which one of the two you would send in?

Thank you for you reply

Personally, I prefer the second picture.

I'm not exactly an expert, but can offer an opinion.......They are both real good shots, but I'd agree with mickle and say #2 does more for me. Good luck in the contest. :eyes

I hope you dont mind me saying this but......

Did you take these shots in jpeg ?.Because you got the dreaded yellow going over the 1st pic  (to do with the white balance).

For seeing the deer shot without the yellow i say pick no#1.No#2 looks to set-up to me.Like everything was place on the ground.

I had a play in PS for you and this is what can be done(hope you dont mind ?)

I would send in #2 in @1 all the tree branches in front of the animals are a little disturbing.

I like #1. It looks like an oil painting.

Not bad for a wilderness shot! I like it!

For the deer shot, if the branches were to the side of the animals, it would be better.

For the red berry shot, it could really use something else for an accent. Maybe a bit of colored vegetation.

Thank you for your input. I took the photo in JPEG but had PS a bit with the historgram.
Maybe I moved the right arrow too much to the left. Did some PS on the original and it turned out to be much better.
As lighting in wood is difficult I will shoot RAW next time.

By the way can imagine your critics on photo nr 2. But the photo is very real no scenario or any editting

The deer shot is nice, but it is very monochramatic. I tried to edit it in photoshop but it's one of those pictures that you cant do anything with. I really like the second one, very simple.

Here's what PhotoImpact does with it using auto on the RGB channels on the tone map. It takes care of the yellow hue w/o adding a blue one:
