Hey

I was reading my cam magazine the other night and saw in the "new gear" section a small review of the Hoodeye Eye-Cups.

Now when I spend a day out with my camera I often find that it gets quite uncomfortable when pressing my eye against the viewfinder to see what's happening.

Does anyone have experience with anything like this, and would it be more comfortable for long uses. I can't really see a reason why this wouldn't relieve soreness from pressing eyes and noses to cameras in order to get a good contact, if you will, with the viewfinder?

Image below taken from the Hoodeye website:

it looks like the Hoodeye puts the viewfinder surface out another few mm, which may reduce the need to press my face up against the camera? Plus it would block any extra light coming in via the side of my eye?

Any thoughts on use are appreciated.

Gordon

get the canon EPEX15 eyepiece extender and you can do a very simple (1 min) mod to take out the magnifying glass inside.

EDIT: heres the mod tutorial... http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=563309&highlight=ep-ex15+mod

Hey,

thank for your reply.

I am liking the tutorial, but I also like the fact that the Hoodeye acts as a blinker, isolating your eye from any light being flung in front of the viewfinder...

Anyone have one of these?

I don't know how much of a disadvantage you find this, but the lower edge of the rubber cup extends almost a half inch over the rear screen. You might want to stick with the EP-EX15 extender with the above modification.

I did it and it works very well. Eye relief without blocking the screen. When you really get your eye in so that you can see the whole screen, the 3/8" flange on the standard eyecup sitting on the EPEX effectively blocks any peripheral light. And the price is about half that of the Hoodman.

Yeah, i did not like the HoodEye. I guess i was used to bringing my face to the camera in my own way and did not have to line up just right to get a good view, plus i still had my nose up against the screen, maybe a combo of the EPEX and the Hoodeye might be the ticket.

actually looking at it , i fear i might poke my eye , having been used to the normal eye piece for so long, this might just not be a great idea.
