I used some "snapshot" jpgs from today to create these HDR images, my first attempt. I simply duplicated a JPG file then adjusted exposure about 1 stop either way, then used Photomatix. I figure next time I'll use RAW or even bracket my exposure - Any other helpful critique? Thanks

Those are really good, especially considering how easily you did it.

Love the car shot. And the old stone mansion! Very cool.

Thanks y'all
I found this to be a little too easy using Lightroom with the Photomatix plugin, simply duplicate then push a few stops - export through photomatix - bring it back through Lightroom for a few final tweaks, and walaah you have an HDR. Now I'm searching my LR catalogue (roughly 10 thousand pics) for another good HDR candidate.

What settings did you use in Photomatix?
BTW how do you like that 17-50? I'm still using my 18-55 kit lens and I think I have outgrown it.

for photomatix I imported 3 to 5 different versions of the shot, each about 1/2 stop apart. Then just messed with the sliders a bit until I got the look I liked.

my Tamron 17-50 2.8 gets a lot of use, I also have the kit 18-55 "IS" that I keep around for special situations, like medium/long exposures with intentional motion blur
