What is your computer's specifications and what software are you using for playback?

Keep in mind that your 5Dii video is 1080p at 40 mbps bit rate. That is pretty beefy and your MBA is going to struggle, particularly with Quicktime. You should download Plex and give it a try. My 2 gHz Mini cannot play 5Dii video using Quicktime, but it is fine using Plex.

I have shot with Ultra II 8gb cards with no problem. I primarily shoot on Kingston 16gb 133x cards also without a problem. The buffer fills partially up for 1-2 seconds on start of recording but there is no loss.

Quicktime does seem to struggle with playback on my macbook pro (2ghz core duo). I use VLC.

from what i have gathered, only the 8gb extreme3 causes this problem

the speed of the card doesnt matter, the camera uses its buffer for it all

hmmm, i tried other cards still same problem when shooting in 1080P HD

any other ideas you can think of????

the main chop i see on my stuff - is when exposure changes mid scene.... the cam has to change the ISO i think to cope and i get a little glitch.

try shooting vid with it just sitting on your desk aimed at something static - no light changes and see .... the other thing is rapid movement of the camera (panning) i can get the look of dropped frames...

ps after writing all that i looked at the video... not a good example. i reckon the simulation is emitting 30 flickers of light per second to 'animate' the spinner.... (or 24 flickers) and what your seeing is massive interruption with the timing of your 30fps video... i might be wrong - but the black flicker frame reminds me of whats seen sometimes shooting slow frame under flouro light - whereby you might catch the 1 frame where the light is actually off - not noticed by the naked eye.

found out that the choppiness i was experiencing is from my computers lack of muscle, time to upgrade to a macbook pro

Plex is an off-shoot of XBMC (http://xbmc.org/). Both use ffmpeg, which is just about the most efficient playback algorithm available.

apple-I and have a look at the 'current fps' should you want to know if you machine is running out of puff. It will waive up and down fractionally, but would never drop more than 2fps below set fps rate.
