Hi!

Some pics of the most recent show I did. Dutch musicians Paulusma (+ band) and Solo.
Gallery: www.nouks.nl/20090424_Paulusma.

Support: Solo (http://nouks.nl/20090424_Paulusma/content/bin/images/large/AT_20090424_Paulusma_0029.jpg)

And I just decided to never import hi-res Photoshop images into Lightroom to make a gallery there... I just noticed the Exif is missing (okay, user error) and some of my photos really (http://nouks.nl/20090424_Paulusma/content/bin/images/large/AT_20090424_Paulusma_0103.jpg) look (http://nouks.nl/20090424_Paulusma/content/bin/images/large/AT_20090424_Paulusma_0176.jpg) like (http://nouks.nl/20090424_Paulusma/content/bin/images/large/AT_20090424_Paulusma_0215.jpg) crap (http://nouks.nl/20090424_Paulusma/content/bin/images/large/AT_20090424_Paulusma_0232.jpg). (Especially click on "look"... I would have loved to include that shot in the series above, but I just can't show it this way... Guess I have to make some new low-res photos in Photoshop after all.)

Try switching *off* the (output) sharpening in LR maybe?
I'll comment on the images later ;)

I did, as far as I know... I'll just use Photoshop for my low-res images again, but I screwed up my watermark last week when trying to make it a bit less obvious. I'm trying to find a way in which my watermark looks good on both black/dark backgrounds *and* white but that seems to be impossible...

I like the detail of #1 and the composition and color combination of #3... #3 is unique in it's own right... haven't seen one like it in recent memory.

I like #6 and 8 best I think.
In #7 I'd have liked a bit more space at the right.

Only one I don't like too much is #5: Mic stand is in the way.

Solid set as usual.

interesting PP; i've been toying w/ the same (desaturated/sharpened/contrasty).

of the photos, i like 4, 7 and 8 the best. #2 doesn't work for me, but you probably had little light on the drummer to work w/ .

Oh wow, 2 more replies! :P Thanks guys!

Narlus: I've built a Photoshop action for the No Use For A Name photos back in January. Have used it on all photos since. Seems to work on all different kinds of music, even on singer-songwriter-stuff :D

On the light on the drummer: drummer was in the front of the stage, pretty weird setting. This shows it a bit: http://nouks.nl/20090424_Paulusma/content/AT_20090424_Paulusma_0283_large.html
But though the guy was in the front, the lighting was still pretty difficult. Not too much basic lighting (read: 1/30 to 1/50 on ISO 1600 F2.8), but lots of moving heads (read: 1/320 to 1/500) flying around. Lots of photos didn't make the selection because of movement and "one part being extremely overexposed, one part being extremely underexposed". Even on just one musician, yes.

René, thanks. Have to agree on the mic stand, I even thought about not selecting it but somehow my photos of Paulusma himself are a lot less interesting than the photos of other guys.
On number 7: agreed. I had my reasons not to include what were on the right side of the frame, but that's no excuse. Fail ;)

I know who you are, Gerberusdeidnkkenll! Quite a palette of hues in these sweethearts! I thought you've been Nouks for months and months! So, are you, or are you not, still a redhead?

Hahaha Dwight, thanks for making me laugh :)
At the moment I'm not. Something else for a change...

You netherlandthals are an odd lot ... very appealing in a young woman! :-) Well, how about blue? Green? Yellow? And if not, why not?

Haha, blue is okay but I won't ever try green or yellow :D

Hello.

I like what you were going for in 8. Having a non-trivial and interesting foreground and/or background in your pictures is a great tool when you need to get "something different", so I'd encourage to keep on practicing that.
