I'm going to be photographing an extremely attractive woman on Friday the 22nd. I've already done some test shots with her. I've photographed her before as a musical act, and this will be my first time photographing her posed. We've already built a lot of rapport, so that's a good start.

In some test shots I did with her, I got her to laugh and have fun via some goofy humor and by razzing her. I have some background in directing plays, and I used that to elicit emotion from her. One thing I did was I posed her and told her to look down and think of the naughtiest thing she could think of, but she didn't have to tell me what it was, and then to look up at which point I took her picture. Made for a really nice seductive look. Then I told her to do the same thing, but to think innocence. When she looked up, I snapped her picture and said, "Now, you're innocent." Then in a wise-assed and playful way, I said, "Sure, you are." That totally cracked her up. Got a really fun shot with that one.

I also recycled my dad's joke. He worked as an airline pilot before he retired. When someone would visit him in the cock pit, he would point to all the complicated controls and say, "I used to know what all this stuff was for." That always gets a laugh when I'm changing a lens. Also, when I'm putting a lens hood on, I'll claim the purpose of the hood is to make the camera look really cool. That gets a laugh.

I'm interested in what humor other people have used to make the model loosen up and have fun.

I use more light-hearted teasing than humor to build my repore with models. During a shoot, once we are in rhythm with eachother, I don't say much unless I need to give a
specific direction.
