i'd like some of your guys' advice on a UV filter for a 24-70L.
i hear good things about B+W MRC filters. but the new Hoya HD filters are said to be great.
does anyone have any experiences with these and advice as to which to pick?

There is a detailed lens filter review that I saw posted out here. If I find the link, I will post it.

Hoya came out on top, but it was based on several factors, one of which was UV protection. Hoya scored well on that category, and that helped them to the top. One poster claimed that UV filtering is already built into the lens, and is not important. More importantly, to this poster was light transmission, or some such category, B+W was the leader there.

I have some B+W MRC filters and I am happy with them. They are easy to clean, which was noted in this review.

As far as high end filters go, I have only tried B+W. I need some more, and that it what I plan to buy.

I am not sure how the price of Hoya compares.

I think some people end up with Hoya, which is a good filter, because they are what someone can buy off the rack at their local camera shop. B+W is not always available, and I think may be more expensive.

For a better deal, you might want to try 2filter.com. I have had good experience with them.

I have had good success with the B+W UV/Haze (MRC) F-Pro filters, which are on all of my lenses. Excellent, quality German-made filters!

After debating between Hoya & B+W, I ended up w/ the Hoya HD CP; and I am very glad that I did. The B+W Slims have no front threads, so it difficult to keep the front lid on.
As the linked reviews mention, the new HD CP are very thin, durable and let more light in than any other CP I have seen. Now I can keep my filter on, even when shooting indoors, w/ no problem. I am quite impressed. Very expensive, but I found them online for half the price, from a reputable dealer. Maxsaver. good luck.
