I like it, I love the look of weathered wood and ancient buildings just fascinate me. But I can't help think it would be better if viewed in context, as part of a set or as a blow-up from a larger section for example.

I agree.
The background you have at the left end of the photograph can actually be used to show some context. another way is to get close to the wood and the nails leave out the background. i personally dont like the little blank background left, dosent seem to help any bit in enhancing the photograph.

I agree with the above comments. An excellent subject but needs better composition. Maybe shoot from the left side on an angle giving it more depth and a chance to play with the DOF (f2.8-3.2) with the nail and end grain in perfect focus and blurred as you move down the plank.
