Hey everyone. I have been doing concert photography for the last few months, and have made a portfolio of my best shots. Never made a portfolio before, so any input would be much appreciated: http://www.coppatopphotos.com/p585720430

If you have a look, let me know which photos you think I should get rid of. There are a couple of shots with different versions in there, wasn't sure if I should narrow it down to one version or not, but I just put both in. I tried to pick about 5 -6 shots from each show I have done this year. Most of them are shots I have posted here, some are not. Not sure if I should truncate the portfolio anymore, as it is currently 135 pictures. There are a lot of photos, so if you do have comments, leave them there, here with the number of the photo you are talking about (They should be numbered in the upper right corner of the page).

I also want to think all the members in this section for all the advice you have given me. From equipment, to business, to ethics, it has helped enormously.

Also, before you say anything, I know the first shot isn't the greatest, and probably shouldn't be there. It was from my first show, that I snuck my (then XTi) DSLR into. When I saw that picture I knew I wanted to do concert photography.

Thanks for your time!

Honestly, if you're going to call it a portfolio and not just a favorites gallery, I would narrow it down to about 20 images...maybe 30 at the absolute most, but 20 would be better. Think of it like a resume' where you want to sum up your experience and qualifications in one page.

With a portfolio you should showcase only your very best images. Right now you have a large collection of images with a few exceptional images, quite a few very good images, and a fair amount that are just okay. With 135 images in the gallery, I think the viewer will have the tendency to just flip through the photos quickly. With 20 or so images, the viewer is more inclined to actually spend a little bit of time looking at a particular image.

I have to agree; being confronted with a list of 14 pages worth of images really put me off browsing through them.

These are good and sharp, but I agree - narrow it down.

Ok -- that's sort of what I figured.

I will try and narrow it down and get back to you guys.

Agree with bacchanal on this one too. Not take 5-6 shots per show, take 1 of just your best shows. Only the best of the best, but make sure not to include just singers (for instance) or guitarists just because your best shots happen to be the singer (or guitarist) ones.

Some very good shots there, but I agree with the others: About 20 is enough.

People tend to remember 1 bad shot a lot better then 30 good ones.

Also, I don't think I'd use selective color in a portfolio for PA. But that's IMHO off course ;)
