In case you didnt read my post about self portraits in the past week, heres a refresher...
I cant do self portraits, I stink at it and I suck at modeling.
Someone encouraged me to try again so I did.
I also "borrowed" the hood idea from someone on this forum.

I wanted a dramatic look. I later discovered that I really like how the light enhances the folds in the sweater fabric.

Your thoughts?

I like this one; however, it looks like you're trying a "tough-guy" theme with this picture, so I would not have smiled at all. Instead, I would have just sat with a serious or even angry look on my face.

that's just my 2 cents. I'm no pro, and I don't really know what you were trying to achieve with that shot, so if i'm way off, then my apologies.

But like I said, I love the pose (and better shirt this time http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gifhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gifhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

If you didn't say it was a self portrait,.
...and if the lighting weren't so .. well,... specific...

I'd have though it was a semi-candid. As in "what do you think your photographing?"

I think it works.

Thanx for your thoughts. I think your opinion is very valid. Wether youre a pro or not is irrellevant. I want to know what the average persons thoughts are.

Thanx...

Wow. Thats my biggest problem. I cannot look candid, I always look like I am posing.
I may have finally done it.
Thanx!

hey, i remember that "hood pic". that guy's self portrait sure was amazing!

i think your face is too sweet, and you have the sweetest looking family, for this tough guy look but then again that's 'cause i've been viewing your work lately. that's my tough guy look after i've told my son to stop for the umpthteen time-hehehehe.

you're very brave for getting in front of your camera. i could never bring myself to do that. you have very much improved. your eyes are fully open, your body is relaxed, your hands are carefully situated, and you were aware of your wardrobe.

the pic is very sharp. this one works great!

I actually really like this one a lot! A lot better than your other pics, and a good idea. I think you need to move out of the whole shadow thing....... try something different man! Different lighting, more color, more excitement. Some action, expression. Try a whole erray of different things and find your nich.

I have done that.
I started with portraits with perfect shadow free lighting. I have done lots of outdoor architecture photos (which i really like to do)
I have done still life work...

I do these dramatic shots because I really like to do them. Also, I am looking for a promotional photo for some martketing I am doing for my rock band. So these are experiments with dramatic, movie ad style lighting.
Thats why you guys are seeing alot of this style. I am learning how to make this work and you guys are my teacher!

I think the deep shadows work, especially if that's your style. But the shadows are so prominent on the sweatshirt that your face gets lost. I think you should find some way to get more light on your face, or lighten it with PP. As is, the sweatshirt almost seems like the main subject, not you.

I like the mood and the feel from the shot.

Not all shots need to have a theme since most of magazine cover shoots do not have a theme (probably just imagined in the mind of the artist)

I like this shot a lot... Works very well--lighting composition everything... The only thing I question, your eyes seem a little soft to me... though it could be the result of fitting the pic into a small enough file to fit on here... Thanks for sharing... It's a nice shot
