[Newb Question] How to take off Tripod head from legs?! (Manfrotto)

Hey everyone,

I was able to grab a 190PROB (older version of the 190XPROB) Manfrotto tripod with the 486RC2 Manfrotto ball head from someone off Craigslist for very cheap. (I don't think the guy knew what he was selling)

Anyways, I was trying to take off the ball head, but I couldn't find a way how to!

Don't mind the dust in the photos... I just bought the 1DmkII and haven't had time to clean the sensor.

I thought it should be as easy as unscrewing the ball head from the tripod where you can see the silver lining. It doesn't matter if I lock or loosen the pan/tilt lever for the ball head, when I try unscrewing it, it just spins and never gets loose!
So I thought it had to be something with the same screws on the bottom of the tripod plate connector (image 2). So I unscrewed those and tried and STILL no luck!

I was messing around with it for a good hour before I decided to swallow my pride and look stupid in front of the POTN community.

I honestly have no idea how to get the ball head off the tripod.

Is there anyone that can shed light on this issue?
It's driving me NUTS!

there are 3 flat screws at the bottom of the base where you attach the head as shown on your pic. make sure all 3 are loose then you just have to twist the head really hard hard until it loosens.

I think my brain gave my head an IOU and left for the summer.
