Any recommendations on good web sites to pick up licensing music? I have some commercial web productions that require some 50s tracks.

musicbakery has music that you can purchase. I have several of their stuff that I use for video work.

I use:

www.smartsound.com

Rich, full sounding music. Purchase any album (even on special sales) and you get SonicFire Pro 5 Express Tracks edition free.

You select the track, enter the sequence time in minutes and seconds, and the program composes the score to your length with a good beinning, middle passages, and a pretty good ending.

Get on their mailing list, they have some real specials from time to time. They just had one where there wore 12 disks from the "Producers Series" at $24.95 each.

I snapped up 3.

I would also mention that for commercial web site use (not for syncing with CDs or DVDs), BMI and ASCAP both offer annual licensing plans for anything (and everything) in their catalogs that are actually quite reasonable.

You can get licensed within minutes by an online form on the BMI website at $309 per year for a "commercial presence" (no online shopping cart) website that gets up to an estimated 750,000 hits per year. The price rises modestly if you estimate more hits (for instance, it rises to $325 per year if you estimate 1,000,000 hits).

For a "revenue (shopping cart)" website, the price is slightly higher, but still reasonable.

The ASCAP form is a PDF download.
