Your results are very good.

I am in the same boat as you -- brand new 50D -- trying to learn its capabilities.
Have a little more fun with it. Take it out of Full Auto. Try Aperture Priority or Manual.. Try using spot metering vs the default.

Just my opinion...so take it with a big grain of salt! :-)

#1. Nice shot. Probably should crop tighter. Liberty is too small.
#2. Nice flag shot. I like the sun glare through the flag. Good job.
#3. Pretty typical shot. Nicely shot. I like it.
#4. Perspective from the rear doesn't do it for me.
#5. I like the bird superimposed over Liberty. Good job.
#6. Liberty is too centered. Based on direction, I'd crop so that Liberty is on the left side of the frame.
#7. Trees don't add any value to the pic. Distracting.
#8. Doesn't really do anything for me...

Overall I think they are good efforts. Exposure is good. Good colors. Sharp.

Looking forward to more NYC shots!

Nice pictures what day were these taken? We were there Friday afternoon. I just got home so I'll have to see how mine turned out.
