Anyone with experience of using these together. I'm about to visit my local zoo (Edinburgh) and I'm looking for some extra reach but not sure if the sigma TC will damage the canon lens. Alternative option is to use my Sigma 100-300. Any views?

I can't help with your question, but I do want to point out that will take the lens to F5.6, which means you'd need to use a high ISO unless you're in quite bright light. I returned a 70-300 F4-5.6 because it was too "slow" for me.

Sigma Uk web site gives a full run down of compatibility. It will work fine from what I remember but I reckon it will slow down the AF. My Kenko Pro 1.4x did with my previous F4 L, tho' did get some nice results too. If you have the 100-300 then will be fine for 90% of zoo shots I'd have thought, if you think you need the extra length. The Canon F4 on its own would be my choice given likely proximity of animals, but maybe I'd have the 1.4x in my pocket too!

thanks guys - took the sigma 100-300 F4, plus the 70-200 F4L plus the 1.4tc. Used the 70-200 on it's own and didn't touch the others.

You know... I thought I remembered reading somewhere that a user on this forum, or maybe it was fredmiranda... one or the other.. had incompatability issues with the 70-200 f/4L and a Sigma 1.4 TC. It might be something worth researching if you haven't already purchased them...

Our own T-con sticky thread,...
currently the single most comprehensive source of information on Canon compatible Teleconverters available on the WWW,...

... also shows the Compatibility.. it will work ,. and work well in fact.

I suspect your memory is faulty. I use that combination fairly often without any difficulty and the results are very acceptable.

Take a look at the TC sticky at the top of this forum... the Sigma 1.4X TC is listed as compatible with the EF 70-200 F4L.

Cute!

You didn't offend me. I was worried about you.
