I have my 430ex so that it screws into the top of my tripod (Velbon Sherpa 200R), and that's how it stands for the moment. I have a "projection umbrella" which seems identical to a shoot through umbrella apart from the pole is unusually large (12-15mm diameter). Most of the standard holders only seem to support smaller diameters.

Is there a clamp or adapter/head I can get for the tripod so it can hold the and the flash and the larger diameter umbrella that won't break the bank? Or is it a case of bodging it?

Cheers for any help,

Tom

Wouldn't the regular brass stud work? Screw one end into the monopod, tripod and attach umbrella adapter?

The thing is the umbrella adapters I've seen don't allow for the larger diameter of my umbrella - they only seem to hold <12mm poles

Check out the Manfrotto 026 adapter (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/546375-REG/Manfrotto_by_Bogen_Imaging_026_026_Swivel_Umbrella _Adapter.html#accessories). It supposedly will handle 3/8" diameter umbrella shafts.
