Just wondering about upgrading. In fact have considered a 40D instead of 50D. Wondering if either is worth switching to. I do about 90% Macro. I have been told that the 40D or the 50D would be an upgrade in both IQ and control. Any opinions would be great!

alann,
I haven't shot with the XSi but I have always like the xxD and xD models because of the ease to control all the settings manually.
So I personally would rather have the a 40D or newer for the controls ;)

As far as image quality goes, no not really.

Depending on what your equipment list currently consists of, you might be better served by lighting equipment or a tripod.

Noodle_snacks is right about the image quality, IMHO, but I would go with the 40D or 50D for the ease of controls. I use both a Rebel XTi and a 50D and do not find much, if any, difference in image quality, but once I learned the controls for the xxD series, I am not sure how I did it with the XTi. OTOH, if you are happy with your XSi, why not put money into lenses and accessories? Just a thought!

I have Xsi and 50D. For macro the only change for me is the better resolution LCD if I am using Liveview to focus. If you try and like the XXD bodies better (as I did) then you might get better shots just because you are more comfortable. That said, you'll see a much greater return improving your light. Maybe get a macro flash or custom flash scenario. I haven't done that yet because I'm not a dedicated macro shooter but it is obviously lacking in my shots Xsi or 50D.

Edit:

I looked at your smugmug. You are doing fine with your Xsi right now. I'm sticking with my suggestion to improve your light.

Thanks so much! I was hoping to hear from someone that had experience with both bodies. I now feel better about staying with the XSI and purchasing a Canon twin light flash......as soon as I can convince the wife it is a NECESSITY! :)
