Has anyone shot a portrait picture of people with their 20D on ISO1600 or 3200? I'm dying to see the difference between the 10D and the 20D...

My buddy keeps telling me that 1600 is relatively noiseless, but lags in sending me sample images...

So if you have any untouched 1600 or 3200 portraits, let's see them!

Thanks in advance!

The 20d does have 3200 but you have to turn it on in the custom feature section. I t will show as "H" on the top display.

Sorry jO3 no pics to share with you but from playing with high iso's on the 20d noise is low but is there. I have never used a 10d so I can't compare.

I don't exactly shoot people often.

And when I do, it's only up to ISO 400, as I don't like noise. Rather keep a steady hand.

Anyway, I do have a people shot, but not exactly what you're looking for.

ISO 1600, 1/250th, in odd coloured lighting, inside a circus tent. The people were around 20metres away.

You can see the noise quite clearly. With a better lighting setup, lower shutter speed, I'm sure anyone can get crisper shots.

the problem that I get is REALLY grainy images of anywhere there's shadows... Even with Noiseware, I can't minimize a lot of the noise, and the pictures are of pretty bad quality...

So what's the purpose of this request? I just want to know if the High exposure is worth it alone to upgrade to the 20D... I know about all the features and extra specs that it has over the 10D, but I want cold hard proof!

My situation: I shoot at night clubs, and I'm constantly trying to capture good crowd shots... But because it's a club and SUCH an uncontrolled environment, EVERYONE is moving, and there's not many settings that I could play with... Let me show an untouched pic:

ISO1600; 2.8; 1/20; 50mm

I hate that noise in the bottom left, top left, and top right corners...

Here it is with Noiseware suppression:

You'll notice that there is still remnants of noise...

I found a few ISO1600/3200, but I won't post them, for my friend's sake. :p

Anyway, just looking at ISO 800, it looks great, and only at 1600 it gets probably twice as bad, and then at ISO3200 it's another 3 times worse.

That's my lil sis. She wasn't posing here, but covering up a pimple, hehe.

A 100% crop of her eyes:

I can't exactly see noise, so the 20D is fairly impressive.

I see no noise at 800, so what is "twice as bad" at 1600 if there is no noise at 800?

I dont have portraits but my shots at
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=69800
are @iso1600. RAW files do have some noise as they were shot in pitch dark, but can be easily removed in any editor.
