I was setting up for a shoot this weekend, and just happened to notice that my AB800s fit my lastolite shoe strobe box like a glove.
I was trying to think of a reason not to use them together, and other that the heat coming off the modeling light (I turned it off), can't come up with anything.
Any thoughts?

Hi Matt,
So without actually getting the AB adapter ring you're able to use the Bees with the EZYbox? Care to post so I can see?

The Lastolite website doesnt say anything about the Ezybox to not be able to handle studio lights, their demo actually shows all three (square) sizes with studio strobes.
So i wouldnt worry about it.
I personally dont see the benefit of the ezybox lineup, to flimsy and isnt much smaller or faster to setup then other boxes in the same size.

I've since learned that they have a studio series (which I wasnt aware of). The only thing I would be wary about is the modeling lights.
The benefits of the Ezybox -- fast to set up, more substantial sidewall construction, generally better fabric
Drawbacks -- frame not near as strong as a chimera, ability to hold shape in wind somewhere between an umbrella and a chimera.
Its not the second coming, but relative to some of the competition, like the tricoast box, its priced "on target". The big drawback is the frame -- it would fold in the wind before a standard box (I think).

Its metal -- comparable to a chimera ring, IMO.

Every modifier will have its place and application. Wind and adverse weather conditions always have to be taken into consideration when buying gear or when planning for a location shoot.
I'm sure every one of us has had an umbrella take off or tumble to the ground when a slight breeze hits it.
Location shooting is about planning, backups and alternative solutions.

As promised......
The AB800. The metal clamps (4 total) seen at 10 and 8 oclock in the foreground are springloaded, and are opened via a tensioned spring release at the top.

Yes your right the EZbox is available in two versions. Not sure if there are any more diffrences then sizes and mount?
Its a good unit for the price no doubt, but thats also the only thing. The claims that they setup up "faster" isnt really true especially not compared to Chimera Pro II units or similar.

I just purchased the EZBox 15x15, used it last night for some still life shots. It's an excellent softbox for its size and price. I've unfortunately wasted money on some other small ones which were difficult to set up, encased the speedlight inside, and sucked, plain and simple.
As stated, this box surely has its place. I'm liking it. I also bought a new Manfrotto light stand, about 90 bucks, one of the new flat ones that you can lock two stands together in a pancake configuration for ease of storage and transport. Very nice stand, stable and convenient.
