I am sure that the Rebel can only shoot a medium JPG when you are photographing in RAW?

Why is then that my JPG files, when I shoot in RAW, are bigger than when I shoot I shoot the largest size JPG?

Thanks...

I don't think my 300D has a raw + jpg setting, though the .thm file can be renemed a .jpg file & it's small sized & about 10KB.
You need to give more info re: "Why is then that my JPG files, when I shoot in RAW, are bigger than when I shoot I shoot the largest size JPG?" 'cause I don't understand what you're doing?

Okay after you said that I went back and checked...

I didn't think that you could view RAW files, but apparently IRvanview can show them...

Thanks for your help...

RawShooter can act as both a viewer & converter.

When you shoot RAW with the 300D, a Medium JPG image is automatically embedded into the RAW file. The Canon EVU program as well as a few other 3rd party RAW converter programs can extract this JPEG image out of the RAW file. The reason the RAW file itself is bigger than a regular Medium JPG file is because you are actually looking at the RAW file with the embedded M JPG image. It's not just the JPG image.

If your Rebel is upgraded with the hacked firmware you can record a large fine jpeg in raw mode .
