View Full Version : Camera twisting on bracket- Help!!

I have the Stroboframe Pro-RL bracket and a BG-E2 gripped 40D on it. The camera just loves to twist as I use it and constantly am holding the lens up to prevent twisting. The cork just doesn't hold it. I ordered the anti-twist plate from stroboframe (Catolog #300-BE1) that supposedly fits the BG-E2 grip but it does not fit.
Any suggestions on how to solve the twisting problem??
Thanks in advance to the knowledgable POTN members--

wizard13,
I don't know the Stroboframe Pro-RL bracket but I had exactly the same problems with Manfrotto's RC2 plate.
The only solution that worked was to install a full layer of double sided plastic sticking tape between the body and the plate. An even more permanent solution would be contact adhesive.
I've since moved over to the Arca-Swiss plates and clamps and use a couple of beautifully designed (but expensive) RRS plates specific to my cameras.

What Lowner said...Really Right Stuff plates and brackets have flanges that are machined into the rear edge..this prevents the plate or bracket from rotating on the body. Adding a layer of anything (tape, cork, etc) between the plate and body will require more tightening torque to "lock" the body against the plate. Too much torque could damage the threaded socket at the base of the camera or possibly damage any circuitry that is behind the camera baseplate.

For RC2 users, Manfrotto makes an "Architectural" model (3157N) which has a retaining flange (that slides back and forth, but won't allow twisting).

Thanks for the responses. Guess I need to look around more and try to figure out a solution. The tape / adhesive won't work since I need to take the camera off the bracket as well.
Maybe quick release plates? Or would the 40D w/ BG-E2 and 70-200 2.8IS be too heavy once rotated to vertical?
Thanks!

wizard13,
Depending on your bank balance, have a look at the Markins, RRS, Kirk and Arca-Swiss quick release clamps and plates. Theres a very good reason so many are prepared to pay those prices.
And their heads are pretty good too!
