Im wondering what are the best neck straps out there and why? Include pictures if you have some, it would be great to compare all types of straps.

I would agree with Jerome, but my preference for travel is the PacSafe 100, which has steel cables embedded inside. It also has a separate shoulder pad which the strap slips though for easier movement, as I carry my camera over the chest at my hip.
The POTN doesn't move as easily in that position.

Personally, I think you can narrow down to three choices:
1) The POTN strap (the Op/Tech Pro Loop strap). Excels at comfort. Reduces the perceived weight of your gear by 50%. If you get this one, you might as well get the POTN version and support this wonderful website.
2) The Upstrap. This is the camera strap that absolutely will not slip off your shoulder. A little pricey, but those that have one swear by it.
3) The Black Rapid. Interesting concept. It's quick-draw style has many admirers.
Hope this helps!

Optech Super Classic; Prosafe; Domke gripper

My preference are the 1.5" Domke straps. Have one on every camera. Some people don't like the metal clasp being afraid it will scratch the camera, however, I have never had an issue and I'm not easy on my gear.

Another vote for the POTN strap <-- click to see (http://www.procameragear.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/30/products_id/141)

I used to prefer the UpStrap but found that it digs into my shoulder and tends to pull the shoulder down, defeating its purpose.
Current favorite is Domke QR wider version. The grippers really do.

The SmugMug neck strap -- very comfortable and free. :)
I find it's more comfortable than the Opech but it doesn't look anywhere near as well made. I am afraid it's going to break so haven't used it, other than to try it out.

Well, it's actually stronger than its cute looks suggest -- as strong as Canon's original strap that comes with a camera purchase. I feel confident using it for my 40D with the grip and my heaviest lens, which is 100-400.

Crumpler Industry Disgrace neckstrap beats out all neoprene neck straps i've ever owned. Absolutely fantastic, as it has the features of the domke gripper, the optech resilience, plus a wonderful breathable mesh backing.
I back this strap up 100%.

SmugMug strap works well for me. It's comfortable and it was free. When I get some heavier lenses, I'll probably splurge on a POTN strap.

I have Crumpler Industry Disgrace. Hands down it's the BEST.
It's at higher-end price, but it's worth every penny.

Tamrac boomerang.
The card holder pockets are handy and the QD's make it easy to use with an E1.
We also use them for color coding--My gear gets black straps and the wifes are blue.

I was looking up the Canon CPS neck strap and got bounced back here . I have 5 different straps - ended up using the potn one the most [ on camera now ] . Wandering around with up to my 35-350 and battery pack gets heavy . what have done is buy a seat belt cover over the strap .
Still looking for a good one .

Just bought the red Canon Crumpler Industry disgrace one. Partly on the good reviews I've read and partly down to the "pimp my camera" effect..... hope I've made the right choice!

If you're looking for a sling-type, I'd choose the Luma Loop (http://www.luma-labs.com/products/loop) over the BR. Pricey, but sooo comfortable and looks very minimal. I find the BR to be too thick and technical-looking for my taste, so if that describes you, the Luma Loop is definitely worth a look.

I like it too, but I wish it was detachable. I guess I can buy some other pieces to make it detach, but it would be great if they had that option.

For a lighter camera and lens combination the Crumpler Industry Disgrace.
For a heavier lens and BG scenario the Black Rapid RS-5 or the Luma Loop or the Sun Sniper

I'm pretty girly so I wanted something stylish yet comfortable, so I purchased a strap from http://www.jodiescamerastraps.com/. They have nice straps for males and females, and they really are quite comfortable. :)

Upstrap for neck strap.
For sling style strap, Luma loop (way, way better than blackrapid - got 'em both).
Best for rugged conditions long carry - Cotton Carrier.

UpStrap is not a neck strap its a shoulder strap. You can use it around your neck but they sell it as a non-Slip shoulder strap. They argue that your shoulder is anatomically designed to carry a lot more weight than your neck so they made a non-slip shoulder strap.

Another vote for POTN Op/Tech pro loop. As a matter of fact, I ordered another one last week for my backup camera for my trip to India (leaving this weekend), and I just got a message that they are completely out. They still have the standard Op/Tech straps, but since I leave this weekend, I don't think I'll get it in time. The quality and comfort of the Op/Tech strap is demonstrated by my anger of having to use the regular strap for my backup camera.

I have the OPTEC and the neoprene neck part isnt long enough for me. I have a fat neck so the part where the strap is sewn on the neoprene neck part rubs on my neck :(
A normal person should not have a problem

Huh - imagine that, silly me.
I have three of them and use them around my neck all the time (1dmk3, 5D, 40D). I also use them on my shoulders and bandolier style. I've used them for years.
They work just fine around your neck. I wouldn't have recommended them for that use had I not used them in that way.
You ever use one?

While I might choose the POTN Pro Loop if I carried a weighty 1Ds body and 100-400mm zoom on it, I don't. So I love my OpTech Super Classic strap with my (BG grip-less) 40D or 5D with 70-200 on it, because it is less bulky than the Pro strap.

The UPstrap is the Ultimate Non-Slip Shoulder Strap for Cameras and bags. The UPstrap Patented all surface non-slip pad provides amazing traction and lateral stability that removes the slipping annoyance and will greatly reduce the root cause of many neck, lower back and shoulder problems. A photographic accessory favored by professional photographers, the UPstrap allows a relaxed and natural posture to free your mind to the art of photography. You can stand straight without using your hands or contorting your body to stop your camera from sliding off. Photograph leaving your camera strap on your shoulder.
I tell you its a miracle....:)
Oh wait it was ALWAYS on their webpage....even 4 years ago when I finally decided to buy one. Silly me.

The Optech Pro (not the loop!) strap works well for me. I actually don't use a strap very often, since usually I'm using my Cotton Carrier or a tripod/monopod, and for those times it is great to be able to quickly remove the bulk of the neckstrap and be left with two short tails. When I do use the whole strap I find it to be comfortable. However, my main reason for purchase was to benefit from the quick removal of the bit I didn't want getting in the way and catching on things all the time.
