In case anyone is looking for an inexpensive toploading holster bag for a 1 series or D series w/grip and 70-200, 100-400 or 300/4L, I just got a Tamrac Pro Digital Zoom 9 (#5629) for $40. It fits my 20D w/grip and the 300/4L or 70-200/2.8L perfectly. The 300/4L is a little snug but not stretching anything. It has a couple of small memory card/battery pouches inside the front compartment too, with these red nylon flaps that you can pull out of the pouch to help keep track of dead batteries or full memory cards. Kind of gimmicky but seems like a decent idea. My 580EX barely fits in the front pouch, too.
It's not as well padded as the Lowepro AW series which I use for my 20D and the 85/1.8 or 28-75mm, but it's 1" deeper than the 70AW which does not fit the 300/4L IS, and smaller than the 75AW, not to mention it's almost half the price.

Phil - Does the 70-200 fit with the lens hood reversed?

I should have mentioned that in the original post. Yes, the 70-200/2.8L IS fits with the lens hood reversed.

Thanks Phil, sounds about what I'm looking for when I don't want to lug the Expedition 5. I have a charity walk (39+ miles) I'm doing in a few weeks up in Boston and wasn't looking forward to hauling that load around!! :D

Phil,
Thanks for the info. I am about to buy the 100-400 to take pics of my daughter's soccer games and since it would be the only lens I would be using, I wouldn't have to drag a backpack around.

Thanks again Phil..... I picked up this bag and it really came in handy on the walk I did this past weekend. Much better than carrying the backpack the whole way! :D

I've had one for a couple weeks and it's worked out pretty well. Would have been nice to have another small zippered side compartment but it works nonetheless. When I don't have my 70-200mm on my 20D, I can put my 10-22mm on the 20D and put the 28-135mm below it using the velcro attached divider.

Excellent! :D
I didn't notice this thread when Phil wrote it 3 weeks ago, now it comes up again at the very moment I was asking me the same question for my 20d + grip + 100-400.
These forums are invaluable, thanks!
