On hand for this event were legendary driver Bob Bondurant and car designer Peter Brock.
From the hundreds of classic cars that filled four fairgrounds buildings at this world-class car auction, we heard talk that one car - a 1960's Shelby Daytona - got a bid of more than US $6 million. The owner withdrew the car - supposedly he wanted more.

Here are some of the less expensive autos on the floor.

Thanks! :)
For those wondering about getting images at car shows, notes about the techniques used.
Rebel XTi and 18-55mm IS lens, in most images at 18mm. Low angles, with the camera generally aimed underneath the ropes that separated you from the cars. Camera was held around two feet off the floor, for more drama and to minimize the impact of spectators on the images (and there were lots of spectators). ISO 800. No flash. Program AE. Custom white balance as needed. The available light, dozens of lights in the high ceilings, did a good job of both illuminating the cars and defining their shapes.

I saw that Daytona at this years Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance... engine and interior as well! Seen that Shelby King Cobra (cooper monaco chassis) a few times as well.

The Mecum auction was an exceptional event for anyone who enjoys cars. Most of the machines up for bid were 1960's-1970's U.S. muscle cars, but there were enough interesting cars, from Allards to Maseratis, to make it an enjoyable show.

The most colorful part of the event was the display of neon signs, kept illuminated for most of the weekend. These were auctioned along with the hundreds of cars that filled four buildings.

I watched it on TV. I about wet myself when the '65 Impala went for $75K. We have a '68 Impala Convertible, but it would never get that much. Horizons are off on the images, though.

Hard to have horizons indoors. :) Straight up and level car pictures aren't fun, anyway.
Interesting to note that the #94 Cooper Monaco pictured sold for US $600,000.

Creative tilting is one thing, but off horizons is another.
