A few shots from a day game last week, my first opportunity to get out to the ballpark this season...

Ron:

those are really sharp and very well exposed for 'high-noon' lighting. Which lens did you take them with and were you in the stand? If you were in the stands and used the 400mm any problems getting into the game with a monster like that?

Great shots. Did you try cropping them down any? I like to see much tighter shots. Especially liked the 2nd one with the hitter ... would have probably cropped out the umpire and 2/3 of the catcher if it were my shot.

High Dave, thanks for your kind words. I took both my 70-200mm 2.8 and the 100-400mm on both my 5D and Rebel XTi respectively. I used my monopod for all the shots. It's my first time with the 70-200 2.8, I just bought the thing during this past winter. I love the faster lens. The dust pump is good too, but it shines best when the target is stationary.

Oh and on the gear at stadium: I had a media pass last year when I was taking images for the team website and my personal blog. The place is pretty lax because it's minor league ball. I find most of the clubs AA and below will allow you to take professional gear into the stadiums.
