Doh
Probably piston rings with that amount of white smoke out of the exhaust though.

haha, im guessing the thread title is from the golden rule "if you cant fix it with race tape and cable ties, you have an electrical problem"
thats a lot of smoke.
Last time i saw that much smoke was when a racing truck blew a turbo

Damn, hope there was a breeze to carry it away. The guys running behind would have been over it haha. Who was driving? Love that Otago classic event.

Makes for a great photo though :lol:

My votes on head gasket (or cracked block/head), lots of white smoke = coolant, blue smoke is oil.

Didn't get to speak to him so can only speculate. It did stop pretty quick after this shot was taken.

There certianly wasn't much time between them. There was as access road about 80m ahead and the car didn't make it. The last I head, with the kiwi peso where it is, you are looking at about 80k out of Cosworth. (that was a three year old quote) but like I say, without talking to him I can only speculate as to the damage.

It looks like coolant to me, but if it's a cracked block it could be both water AND oil.
That could certainly bring the motor to a stop in fairly short order. Unlike fuel and air, water in the cylinders doesn't compress so well...

We have a few of the original RS1800 Escorts in NZ. My favourite find was Ari Vatanens Masport Escort. What struck me as a nice replica in the Targa was a buzz, but then I looked back at photos and the numberplate was identical (IF780) so I approached the guys who were running it and they confirmed it was Aris original works car from 77 I think it was. Shot some photos and emailed them to Ari and he was really suprised the car was still running as he said `I crashed the car many times during the rally and I'm suprised to see it still around!`
