Not sure what bird this is. I guess now that I'm trying to photograph birds, I'd better get a bird book. Thanks for any input. Bob

I am not sure... Since it is quiet here at work I tried to do some research on the net for you... But could not find a definite ID :(
I found one bird that looked the same (http://www.marymoor.org/birdphotos.htm)
but not sure about its ID. Unfortunately I do not have the book on US birds :(

Very nice photo though :D ^^

To me using iBird it looks like an American Pipit but I'm no expert here. You can also use whatbird.com, it's the same software just on a computer.

Would it be a juvenile European Starling?

female cowbird, for me. i recently posted an ID for the same bird. yours looks brighter, but the color and shape of the beak look the same on a dull, brown body. i wish i had the male, they are kind of like grackles in the way the head colors reflect. but, i havent seen one yet.

Female cowbird it is then. We've had a few males come in the feeders recently; if I can get a decent shot, I'll post one. As far as grading your shots, I don't feel qualified. I've just started shooting RAW exclusively for practice. I'm using Elements 7 for PP (still learning). Right now I have a 'great lens'...the 135L f2.0 and also the Tamron 28-75
f2.8. As I said in the post, I used a rented Sigma 50-500 to see how it would do on the
5d; not bad actually. I also use a monopod or tripod often; no IS in lenses or camera. But I don't really mind. (The Sigma lens was a load, though). I don't have the cash for a Canon L superzoom. Thanks for the input. Bob

no worries about "grading." i intend that more for the threads i start. i hope to encourage others to actually say something about the shot. i like the compliments, but not every shot of mine is "amazing work." or even a "nice shot." so, it helps me get better to encourage a letter grade, or 1-10 scale. i just think people are afraid to hurt someone's feelings, when it actually hurts my development more to NOT say something a little critical. but, i digress.

personally, i'll have to wait a long time for anything longer than my kit lenses. i cant get the boss to approve the transaction. so, i have to learn to get the birdies to come to me.....which will help all the more when the bigger lens is acquired...................................some day.
