What do folks think of this flash, who've used it on the EOS bodies? How does it really compare to the 550EX.... Does the sunpak offer the ability to trigger other flashes, like multiple 420's ?

thanks
daniel

Daniel, I am not aware of it having any wireless capability like the Canon wireless spec.

It seems to me like it is a TTL flash.

I would think you might be seeking a flash that is E-TTL compatible.

It is not compatable with the Digital Canons, and the sunpack customer service is very rude when you inquire about this.

It does work, I have one and a buddy of mine have one. triggering other speedlites, I dunno, I never tried. but it can be slaved. just not ETTL slaved. I only use mine in manual mode so I erally don't know the other features. the new sunpak does all the crap you need if you look it up.

Perhaps, you can show me where exactly to look it up that it tells me, "it does all the crap I need." You're the first person I've come across with this opinion of the Sunpak.

I've actually already purchased the Sigma super 500, but thanks for all the advice. Glad I didn't go with the sunpak just because it was cheap.

my friend has the sigma super 500, and I like my sunpak much better then this sigma.

why? What could possibly be better about the Sunpak? After taking a look at that link you gave, I fail to see where either of their top 2 flashes,PZ5000AF or PZ4000AF, as a Master with a Canon flash as a slave. Maybe I missed it.

to me, the pz5000af is a great optical slave. i have one and i use it often - off the camera, or as a second flash on my bracket. but it is in no way even close to the canon or sigma.

but as described above, it's not compatible with canon dslrs. sure, it will fire. but it prevents the camera from working the way it's supposed to. if you want to go ol'skool and do everything manually (camera exposure and flash settings), then sure it works. but you can't set the camera to AV or TV mode with the pz5000af and have the camera expose for ambient light (fill). it forces the camera to expose for flash and then fires the flash at 100%.
