I know, I know... it's "handy sized" and "small". I just received mine and it looks pretty big to me! It's going to get some getting used to. So far the pictures look good. I haven't done any serious testing yet, just a few hand held shots. I'll get serious (and carry along my tripod) next week. "Testing" means shooting pictures, not newspapers pasted on the wall or yardsticks

I'll bet this will make some of you with REALLY big lenses giggle. I hope I made somebody's day.

I'm not giggling. Congratulations on your new lens. Good buy ;)

When some of us started using heavier lenses, we had to start doing arm muscle exercises to get ready for that.

I recommend 12-ounce arm curls.
(That is repeatedly lifting a standard beer can to your lips.)

For the Brits, substitute a pint.

My Tamron 28-300mm is smaller than my wife's 28-78mm so I understand what you mean about the travails of size. I envy you your problem ;-)

Hehe, congrats on the new lens.

May I recommend eating lots of protein for muscle gain also? :p

just wait, you'll laugh yourself, when you get a 400 2.8 or bigger. Whenever I use my 400f5.6 it feels like a toy compared to my 600mm.

Wait till you toss a canon 2x on before the 70-200 - there's a bazooka tube.

I want to go shoot some shots of the jets near my house, but I'm afraid they'll shoot at me in self defense.;)

Heavy lens get a mass. It's an tool for muscle build up exercise.
When you are accustomed to your lover lens, 70-200mm f.4, you will find that this "little little white" is light at all, particuarly when you have tried her little sister, 70-200 f2.8L, and 100-400mm L.

I really need this lense. I'll be getting it in a while. I asked someone for a picture of their 20D or 350D with the 70-200 F\4 attached so I can see it's size and they sent me a angled close shot of it so it really made the lense look super big. Couldn't judge from the picture what it's size was.

Someone mind showing me a SIDE SHOT of a 350D with this lense attached? I'll love you forever.

I would also be intrested in seeing the shot of the lense on the 350D.

You get used to it surprisingly quickly, I had similar thoughts about my 70-200 2.8 IS but after a few trips it seemed normal. Mind you when you go back to a small lens the camera seems so light :)

I hired a Canon 400mm F4 DO L for the weekend, that is big, especially with the massive hood. It was dissapointing, I don't think the IS was working correctly, got clearer shots without it

Anyway good luck with the new lens.

Here is my 20D with the 70-200L f/4...

You will notice the 70-200 f4 is pretty light on the 20D. I had a 70-200 2.8 IS on my 20D, and it was a bit weighty.. However, I am more than comfy using the 70-200 f4 on the 20D. I once used it for almost 8 hours straight at the zoo.
Lets not even get into the image quality.

Its all relative. Some people think the 2.8 IS version is a lightweight. And it is compared to a 300 2.8 IS.

Here is the 350D with 70-200L f4 and 100-400L... now you know why everyone claims the 70-200 is so light and managable. The 100-400L is also 2x the weight. :) (oops, sorry, didn't see the request for a side shot... which someone else already provided. :) )
