Speedlite 580II on 5dMKII

Using the 580 in ETTL mode I cannot get the shutter speed to adjust to flash mode. It is as if the camera does not recognize the flash. Is there a manual setting that I am missing?

Maybe the 580 is in High Speed Synchro?

You need to get C. Fn I-7 out of option 1 and change it to 2 or 3.

With option 1 (Auto) selected, the flash is adjusting to output the correct amount of light for the subject but the camera is still setting a long shutter speed to expose the ambient background for correct exposure.

If you use setting 2 or 3 the flash will work as you'd like and as expected.

You need to clarify your issue.

Are you using Av mode with flash?

The OP would have to be in Av mode to have that happen.
