If I had known I would like this picture so much I would have taken some time to pick a nice background. My wife is a reluctant model so I took what I could and ran with it ;)
Other than the background I would like to hear any advice you have for me. Working with people is so tough even if you can get them to relax and have fun with you. I'd love for a little of that talent out there to rub off on me.

I don't think you need to worry about adding a nicer background to it, the focus of the pic is just fine, where it should be (on your wife's face). I like this shot! Although, the shadow under the nose is a *bit* distracting, but that is all. :)

Thank you all for the compliments. I really can take no credit for my wife... she looked that way when I found her! :D

You do NOT want any of my talent to rub off on you as it would be a giant step backward. I see an excellent photograph of a lovely person.

Nice shot, I really like the B&W conversion you did. Nicely composed. Very pretty wife you have!

a hair light over the right of her hair would have been nice too, (a black backgroud would have been perfect.

I think it's a great photo! Absolutely beautiful, the background is fine. I didn't even notice it until you made mention of it. All the attention is on your wifes beautiful face. The only thing I would change is the shadow under her nose.

How would I go about lighting under her nose and still keep the rest of the lighting? I was thinking about the hair light but if I put one in front of her to take the shadow off of her nose I think I would lose the shadow around her chin and cheek bone as well.
Thanks again for all of the nice comments.

I played with it a little bit. try dodging the dark area and then cloning at about 15%. see if that helps. Very nice picture by the way!

If it is not possible to do in the studio, Photoshop would most likely be able to take care of it! :)

you could always stick a reflector to shed some light wherever needed (under the nose in this situation).
Anyway, I love the light, it is great, and honestly, I don't find that shaddow **that** distracting

I didn't want to use a reflector because I thought it would light up her chin and cheeks too much. She just had our second baby so she is pretty self conscious about her appearance. I need to keep the model happy or I won't have one!
As far as the photoshopping goes, that has been my usual rout when it comes to improving my photos. I am trying hard to learn to take the picture the way I want it the first time around. I have even started using my old film cameras again to help keep me focused. When you know you only have 24 tries at something and you are paying for them good or not you pay closer attention ;)
