Well not really - would you believe an overcast, windy and threatening afternoon on the shore of Lake Erie? Anyway, this is the original color rendition:

And this is the B/W interpretation of the above... what is your preference? C&C always welcome:

The b/w adds character! I like it.
With the b/w you want to know the history behind it - why is it run down - is it haunted??? LOL

Thank you Gary - as much as I enjoy color, I feel this subject and situation is more appropriate to the b/w.

And I've always felt that's some of the power of B/W - because it does not show everything, there can be a sense of mystery that makes you wonder if there is more. Thank you Con.:D

+1 for the B&W Stu... Very Nice.
By your title, I expected to see a shot of Snoopy at the typewriter! ;)

Good see you Sam - I wasn't even aware this "house" existed until we went for a walk last week. I'd love to wall all the way down to the end late in the day and shoot back at the main structure, but that will take some planning and good hiking shoes.:D

Well Jay, if my PS skills were better perhaps I could put the old dog and typewriter up on the roof .
There was a recent article in the local paper that discussed the possibility of this (abandoned) light house being donated to a preservation group. I just think there's something really special about lighthouses. They are unique bits of architecture in beautiful and sometimes incredibly hostile environments. It would be nice to see this one lighted again.

Hello Jens - it's getting quite interesting with the various interpretations here. I appreciate everybody's take on the lighthouse :D.
This was on the (Cleveland/Mentor) side of Lake Erie. As for surfing, the tallest white caps maybe hit 6 feet, but that would be during one of our pre winter storms.
Interesting what you've done here. I played with the rocks myself a bit before actually lightening them up.... and that's not to say what you did was in anyway contrary. My problem with my original was the way the horizon line is pretty much even with the bottom of the white building, which is way I made the rocks lighter. I'm not sure if I liked the way I framed it and should have been more observant when composing the shot. Oh well, it's fun seeing other versions here.

Well hindsight is always 20/20. The beauty of landscape photography is that usually, the landscape stays the same, so you can shoot it again
and again
and again
and again.

Thank you webb.
Now the real challenge would be to return to this spot in the middle of winter when the ice is frozen and drifts have altered the entire landscape. A b/w interpretation under those conditions would be quite interesting. Of course I'm not sure if I'd want to risk breaking my necks on the icy rocks .
