.. from a week ago. It was a 12 hr show. 8am - almost 8pm. .. I started on iso 100 and ended on iso 1000. (though I'll only show the shots from 8am - 3pm). .. but I thought I'd share a few of the good stops and turns. Hope you enjoy them. I had the contrast setting in the camera turned all the way down but still had to pp to lighten the shadows.

Nice series, sepecially #2 and 5. Is there a reason for the time in the lower right?

I was going to do a time/light study of different lighting conditions throughout the day .. but got too tired to finish it.

Great cutting shots as always :-) I especially like the last one - it really show's the horse's concentration well.

#2 and #5 are amazing. Great color and the horses are a great looking specimen. Nice all around.

Hey Playm,

Great shots. 1&2 the horse is really in the dirt. 5 is really cool. Very sharp images & you really nailed focus.

Nice shots! You are lucky to have that solid backdrop behind them, it really makes for almost a studio setting. Looks like you're having good luck with focus these days, did you ever resolve anything from when you were having some troubles?

Just wanted to say Thanks to all for the kind words and encouragement. Glad y'all like images of cutting horses.

Ron - I always aim for the horse's head (though AI Servo and/or I can't always keep up with how fast the head moves).. It usually gives me enough dof to include the rider if I can spot on the head. .. according to Murphy's Law, every now and then I'll get a exceptional action shot but where the lens went on a 'search'.. and the entire image is trashed. Tracknut (from POTN) came out one day so we could compare our AI Servos between his high end (1DIII ?) with my 5D. I'm sure you can guess which was best.. LOL

Tracknut! Your ears must have been burning! LOL. I was going to use the * button for focus like you suggested.. but there was something (I forget) confusing in the instructions that stopped me. .. Now that I've got a little time today/tomorrow (no shows), I'll mess around with it..

Anymore, I have all but given up on my 5D for fast stuff. H/J, barrels, etc., I prefocus where I can. But for cutting, roping, etc., I am more and more moving to using my 40D. I am now starting "softening up" process w/my purchasing manager for a 1DMkIIn;).
