Hello,

I just purchased a 1DS MKII, and I'm a little confused with the auto focus system.

First, each time I depress the shutter button, the group of auto focus points shift around the frame. Why is this?

Next, when in 45 point A/F mode, which within the group of migrating red squares is the actual point being used by the camera? All of them? The center square within the group?

Last, (for now anyway) am I correct in understanding that spot metering is always linked to the default or selected auto focus points? For example – if the red squares are over to the right of the frame, and I am spot metering, is the exposure still measured from within the center circle of the viewfinder, or has it been shifted to the group of points to the right?

Thank you

Jon

Hi Jon,

All that you ask is told in the manual. I'd probably go away and read it thoroughly for quite some time before picking up the camera again.

Read it repeatedly - not clear at all. An explanation would be greatly appreciated.

I would agree that the manual is not that clear. You need to read the Canon "Getting the most from your EOS-1 Class Digital Camera"

http://www.photoworkshop.com/canon/EOS_Digital.pdf

It should answer all that you have asked much more clearly.
