This skating rink in San Antonio is my favorite venue for shooting. The wood floor and neon lighting make for some very nice shots compared to some of the other venues where I shoot. The rest of the gallery is here:

First shot is great perspective and illustrates this retro "sport" well. Front skater is a tiny bit OOF but it is OK for this shot. The remainder are just too busy for my liking, save the portrait. In your 6th shot my eye is immediately drawn to the OOF black lady on the outside which kills this shot for me. Maybe focus more in future on shots with just one or two skaters?

I love the feeling of speed in the 1st shot, how did you shoot it?

50D, EF-s 10-22, 580EXII speedlight. Shot manual, ISO 600, 1/20 second, F5 with the flash metering set to averaging and 2nd curtain sync. Was sitting on the floor at the track's corner apex where the skaters lean in and over the inner track boundary and pass 2-3 feet from me.

These are all awesome shots!! Reminds me of roller derby when I was growing up, black and white tv, Joanie Westin and the Bay area Bombers.

Thanks for the info. ;)

I really need to think about getting a flash, and then learning to use it!
