Alien Bees B800's

Having read numerous opinions on the subject, I decided to flex the plastic and order one B800, which I have just received.

Having unpacked it and given it a quick test run I am very pleased. Recycle times are good, the extra power and 5 f-stop variability are a real plus (currently use flash heads with only 3 f-stops which are 100Ws). Using the shoot through/bounce combo umbrella which I also bought, produces a nice soft light. The build quality also seems good. In fact, due to the very favourable exchange rate (GBP/USD), and my impressions so far, I have flexed the plastic a bit more and ordered a second B800.

I am looking forward to using them for the first time in anger.

Glad to hear it, I just placed my order on Saturday and cant wait for them to ship and get here. I've heard nothing but extensively positive reviews on them and their customer service over the last year so decided to just dive in. Glad to hear another positive review.

i bought 3 AB1600 for my studio and they are working GREAT !! i was skeptical at first, but they really made me a believer !!

I ordered the B400 with the 20 degree filter for a hairlight/backlight on the smaller backlight stand as well as 2 B800 on the larger stronger stands. I may be new to strobe lighting, but with the little I have been playing around with them, they sure come off as top notch to me! Now, if I can just get the hang of this then maybe I can get a way for them to pay for themselves! LOL

I have a pair of B800's, 2 of their lightweight stands and one heavy duty stand, 2 brollys, softbox and speedrings.

I love this setup! Quite a few of the photos in my portfolio/exhibition are done with the Bees.
