I'm looking for a Domke that will hold a gripped 50D with 70-200 f2.8L IS attached and a 24-105L with a flash. I already have the F-2 that holds all of my gear. Now I'm looking for a walk around bag for just these. I don't want something too large. I'm looking for something similar in size to a Crumpler 6MDH. I'm just not a fan of all that padding.

Take a look at maybe the F3x, F4 or F6. I use the F3x for body, 24-70 and 70-200 2.8 with a flash in an outside pocket.

The F3x would work with the 70-200 not mounted on the 50D. The F3x is my preferred walk around but when I mount the 70-200 I find myself using my F2 most commonly. I guess I like the extra space.

I already have an F2 but it is a bit too big to grab and go. I'm looking for something that will support two lenses and a flash. There are events I go to that I don't need everything so I'm looking for something that I can throw my body in with an additional lens. If you don't think the 70-200 will fit when mounted can you suggest an alternative.

The F-4AF Pro isn't big enough to hold a camera plus 70-200 f/2.8 mounted. I use mine with my D700 w/24-70 f/2.8 in the large compartment (lens down) and my 70-200 f/2.8 VR in one of the two smaller compartments (front element up). The 70-200 VR barely fits with the hood attached.
It's a great bag though ... definitely the best I've ever used.

The F3x can hold 2 lenses and flash don't get me wrong. It is my favorite bag. My grab and run bag is a F3x with the following.
5DII with Grip and L-Bracket
24-105 L with hood mounted on 5DII
17-40L with hood
85 f/1.8 with hood
580EX II
RRS Flash Bracket & ETTL cord
Lumiquest Promax
Misc memory cards, batteries, etc.All of this fits will with no issue. Only thing I'm sure to do is use the Postman shoulder pad as it provides more comfort.
So I guess you could put the 70-200 on your 50D but putting the kti in lens down will cause the body to be higher than the bag. I'm sure you could still put the top flap over it, depends if that sort of thing bothers you.

In my F4 I carry my gripped 40D with the 100-400 attached (hood reversed). The 70-200 isn't much different in size.

Do you take the inserts out or have different inserts? The D700 with 70-200 f/2.8 VR is about the same length as a 5D with 70-200 f/2.8 IS, at most 3/4" longer. I could carry the combo this way in the F4AF Pro, but the body (or lens depending on which way you holster it) would stick 3" above the side of the bag. I can close the bag, but it's not a good fit IMO.
My 70-200 f/2.8 VR alone with hood reversed sticks up 1/2" above the side of the bag, which is fine.

Using the standard inserts the body is just a little above the top of the inserts and the body stick up about an inch, more depending on where you measure, above the sides of the bag. Maybe not the best fit but there is no exposed gap when the top cover is closed and the strap can be clipped into place without extending it all the way out.

My D700 with 70-200 must be a couple of inches longer that the 40D + 200-400 then. I could live with 1" above the sides, but not 3".
The Canon 70-200 is slightly longer than the 100-400 and I would imagine the 5d is a bit thicker than the 40D, so as a guess that combo would be about 2" higher than the sides ... which maybe pushing it a bit for the OP.
That being said, it's sure a nice bag. :D It also holds a lot more gear than I'm willing to carry.

F3X with the lens off the body,
Although, the OP may want to quickly grab his gear without changing lenses ect

Joshua, that is correct. I'm looking for something where I can leave it mounted and quickly grab it. Bob, you are correct as well. I don't want my body extending significantly above the bag inner walls. It doesn't look like the Domke line has something that works. I'm really looking for something like a Lowepro toploader but can handle one additional pro style lens (and a flash in the pocket). I know Think Thank has their toploader that expands to easily handle the 70-200 f2.8L IS (even with the hood attached) but that is all it holds. I know you can add attachments on the side but I'm not a fan of that. I would prefer everything be self contained to give better balance.

Get a J3.
I regularly carry my 1D2 with Sigma 70-200/2.8 attached lens down.
and a 20/2.8, 100/2, and a 50/1.4 in the center area
and a 580ex2 and ST-E2 in the front pocket
and accessories on the end pockets.

The F3 will take a body with 70-200 2.8 IS or 100-400 IS mounted OK.

F3x has a 5D/100-400 while the F2 has 20D/70-200 2.8 IS which is about the same size. Previously posted in this thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=270523).

I don't recall which body's in that shot; since there's a battery for my 1D3 in the picture, I suspect it's the 1D3. The lenses are the Sigma 15-30, the 24-70 2.8 LL and the 70-200 2.8 IS L. Flash is a 580EX.

Jon, do you find that when using the bag with the 70-200 mounted that it is stable enough inside the bag? Based on the picture it would seem the camera would have a tendency to move around a lot (high center of gravity). What is keeping things from moving around? I was looking at the F-4AF and thinking that may be a better option because of the insert and a bit more height.

If I have the camera and 2 lenses in there it's not moving around because there's no room for it to. A flash in the main compartment would achieve the same thing (or anything else, for that matter). If I'm shooting the camera's out so it's not going to be slipping around. And it's actually a fairly snug fit to put the body with 70-200 attached in the bag; securing the top will keep things pretty stable even if one body and lens are all that's in the bag (in which case I wouldn't bother with the bag; I'd use a vest and have the camera out).
