camera shy

Hi, I put a couple of posts on few days ago, and received quick replies which was great, but didn't introduce myself.
I've been into photography for about 10 years, and 7 years ago I bought an EOS 30 film camera. I've taken some pretty good shots with it and been really happy with it, but I feel it's time to upgrade. My dad has a 40D and has been trying to convince me that a digital slr is the way to go, and now I've conceded. Tomorrow I am going to bite the bullet, or the cc as the case may be, and get myself a 50D. I downloaded the manual a while ago and have been studying intently, and cruising this site for any relevent info to help with my decision. There seems to be a lot of 40d vs 50d debates which seem like they could go on forever!
I only found this site 4 days ago and I think I'm addicted already! I've only had 5 hours sleep for the last 3 nights, and even though I promised myself I would leave the computer off tonight, I've been on here for 2 1/2 hours already. It's taking it's toll though as I have 3 young children!
I'm into shooting wildlife, with the camera of course, and keen to get heaps of my kids. My youngest is nearly 6 months and has the most amazing blue eyes. I can already see what I'm going to do with those images. I'm thinking there will be a whole lot more technical stuff to get around with the digital but I'm keen to get into it. Not sure what sort of photo editing software to go with yet, I'll see how I go with the package one first.
The gear I have so far is
EOS 30, EF 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM, EF 300mm f2.8 IS USM, 2x II extender, speedlite 420ex flash, Manfrotto tripod and monopod. My hubby has an XL1 and an XM1 digital video camera.
We plan to travel within Australia quite a lot in the near future, and although I'm no professional, I'd like to contribute to magazines and such.
My goal in life is to win lotto so I have enough money to travel the world, take photos and video, and have major fun doing so!! Learn to ski, climb the Himalayas, see Canada, maybe even head to the Antarctic seeing as I'm close enough already. The list is never ending. Oh, and get a cook so I had a bit more time to do these things! But I guess for the moment I'll just have to stick to Australia, that's about how far the budget is getting me!
Looking forward to sharing photos, getting tips and learning heaps of this site. Can't wait to have the camera in my hands next week.
Hurray for me!
A new 50D!
