As far as I know you cannot convert a movie to a jpeg file -- you need to upload them to youtube or another source and send the line out.

You're probably misunderstanding what a jpg is (which is a static photo, not a movie format).

What file name has the movie got? AVI, MPG, something else?

they have a [.MOV] file extension.

quicktime opens them.
the person you are emailing them to likely has quicktime installed, or can do so easily.
just email the quicktime file.

(jpeg, .jpg, is a file format for a single image, not multiple frames or video clips)

Uploading them to youtube is a good idea. Then you won't have to send a large attachment through email - just a web link.

Okay thanks. It ends with mov and I just wanted to email them.

Not a problem. It's a common enough movie format, so your recipients will be able to play them easily enough.

So you can't use window media player at all with these movies? I would like to make my MOV to MPG, I can open them with quicktime but would like to open them with window media player too?

I convert to .wmv file in windows movie maker and then upload to YouTube. avi files are huge and take forever to upload. Haven't uploaded to YouTube in a while but they do or did place a limit on how large the file could be

Yes you can. Open the file using windows and it should open media player. In Vista make sure auto play lets you decide what program opens the file. If you want to open in Movie Maker (and convert to .wmv) just click the tab at top that says "make a movie"

I'm trying to figure out how to convert to .wmv, and don't see any leads in Windows Movie Maker to enable me to do that. Could you tune me in to the right sequence?

thanks!

Once you get the file in movie maker...you have the file in movie maker? You click and drag the file into the first frame of the story line(at bottom) Then look under tasks and find "save to computer" click that and it compresses the file to a more managable size .wmv file...I did a one minute video and it was something like 160MG .avi Converts to about 25MG .wmv in movie maker with some loss of quality but too much.

EDIT: Look under task and find "publish to this computer"..not save to computer

Movie Maker won't accept the MVI file. Says it's not supported. Maybe my version is older, and not compatible?

"The file C:\Documents and Settings\Donald Madson\My Documents\My Pictures\2009 05 20\MVI_2482.MOV is not a supported file type, and it cannot be imported into Windows Movie Maker."

Hmm..my G9 video files have a .avi extension

'Tis a puzzlement...

I'm sure there's a work-around...I'm just under-educated on the subject. Seems a necessary task to convert video files to shorten bandwidth, and I'm sure there are stand-alone programs out there for the looking. I'm gonna go looking...

Did you get the file into movie maker or were you trying to import directly from camera. I tried to import direcly from the camera and it wouldn't open either. I set auto play to let me decide which program would open file and imported using windows which opened it in media player then clicked "make a movie" and the file ended up in movie maker...oh well, good luck

I had the file already in the computer. I'll have to look in "the book" and see if there's any information about the files. It'll open in my PSE6, and in Windows Media Player, but I want to "downsize" it so I can send it via Email. It's too big, and gets killed when I try to send it.

I'll let ya know what I find...

Don't know if it hits in the right direction, but ZoomBrowser MovieEdit allows you to convert the .mov to .avi, even with resampling, rotating, etc.
Maybe the resulting .avi is a better start for the next steps... ?

First convert it in wmv file in windows movie maker and then upload to YouTube this should solve your problem.

Might be onto something there

Maybe look into or post questions in the "digital video forum"

Try this to convert to a more usable format.

Zoombrowser
Task
Export
Export movies
Select movies
Select the save image type: AVI (Motion JPEG)
Then continue with options 3-5.

there's a free program called winff: http://winff.org/html/ It allows you to convert pretty much anything
