I know there are online retailers that sell white and black plexiglass, who would I call to try to find some locally? I'm looking for smaller sized pieces for still life type shots, not large scale for people. Do glass suppliers carry it? My flashes are coming in tomorrow and I really want to try out some stuff with them and I have no suitable backgrounds.

Try looking in your local yellow pages under "plastics."

Thanks guys. :) For future reference, the category in the Yellow Pages is "Plastics-Rods, Tubes, Sheets, Etc-Supply Centers"

Lowes... 1 can black spray paint, 1 can white spray paint and they will cut plexi to any size you want. You'll need to sand one side for better adhesion. This only applies if you really want to save a little $ and you are inclined to DIY...

Or forget the sanding and use a paint designed to chemically bond with acrylic plastics.

Often times photographers want the highly reflective surface of solid colored Plexiglas

So paint the back side of clear plexiglass.

Slightly, but "different" isn't always bad, you know.

...but it might not be the specific appearance that he knows he wants to achieve.

That's why, in post #2, I told him where to find the real McCoy.

dont paint, just put your white or black backdrop under the plexi.
