Yesterday while trying to capture some fast moving objects (low flying airplanes), shutter would not fire. I'm guessing my focus was not locked. It was a surprise shot so I wasn't prepared for it, and AF mode was set on one shot. Unfortunately it was a once only happening and I didn't get a chance to try other modes. It could have been the planes were not right on any of the focus points and I had only the center one selected. Lens was on AF and had been and continued to work on AF before and after. Shooting mode AV.

Am I right in blaming the AF? No similar problems before or after.

What would have been the proper setting?

Thanks,
Jim

One Shot Mode is Focus Priority- it won't fire unless you have locked focus. In AI Servo, single shot, it is Release Priority, it will fire whether your have locked focus or not. In Servo, continuous shooting, the first shot is Release Prioity and the subsequent shots are Focus Prioity.
So if you want the shot whether it is in focus or not, use AI Servo or Manual Focus.

Thank you. The manual should be so simply written.
