Yesterday my 20D froze up on me.
I couldn't snap a picture.
It happened while I was taking multiple shots of my kids while
they were swinging on a swingset at the park.
I turned off the power , then back on and it was still locked.
Not sure what I did after that, I was playing around with the menu.
Turning the camera on and off, then finally it started to work again.
This was strange and the first time I have experienced this problem
in the the 4 weeks that I havew owned it.
Not sure what to think. It works fine now.
Anybody body else experience the same thing?

Yep. Mine did the same thing 2 weeks ago. I only had it for less than a week with less than 400 actuations. I ended up sending the camera back to the reseller for an exchange. I'm still waiting for it..
The camera froze on me similiar to your situation. The top LCD would not turn off even though the switch was turned off. I ended up removing the battery, replacing it and turning it back on. It still would not take any pictures. It finally returned back to normal after a couple of minutes.

Yep, me too. My Microsoft moment happened about a week after getting my 20D. Just removed and re-inserted the battery and hasn't done it since.

pretty much the same for me too. Happened twice and then not since. About 1500 clicks so far in 3 months.

Interesting!!
So this seems somewhat common.
What Firmware do you guys have installed?
I have the 1.1 version, so may update to the version 2 firmware,
although the version 2 is apperently only for ensuring compatibility
with the remote unit,,I would wonder if there are other patches included
in it.?

Mine did the same once, while I was taking lots of photos of a fire near my house. I removed the battery, put it back in, and it worked fine. If it hadn't i'd have removed the battery and lens, then put them back in. It's a known problem with the 20D, some do it more often that others - mine only once, some never, and some regularly. If yours is regular, get it serviced by Canon.

The documentation with that firmware update says it just adds support for wireless networking. Maybe they slipped in some bug fixes, but you'd think they'd let us know if they improved things generally.

I had it happen once with an 85/1.8 on it and heard that it might be because it was an older lens, but apparently it just does it some time, regardless of the lens. I haven't had it happen since.

My focus lock stopped working this last week on my 20D. The little focus dot in the viewer right side disappeared. The beep didn't beep and all my pictures were out of focus unless I used the flash. I finally went to the menu and cleared all the settings and then turned off the camera for a few minutes. When I turned it back on, it was all working again. Weird & frustrating. I'm shooting a wedding this weekend but have my hubby's 20D for back-up as well as taking my Pro1. Can't afford cameras having a bad attitude during important moments.
