I have had a few gigs lately, where i took the photos between 0800-1500 then at 1900 they have to be ready for the big screen and a gala dinner. So i took them ( obviously) and then through aperture exported jpgs and tiffs after PP. Threw them into IDVD and the result is freaking scary bad. Super pixelated. Anybody please have solution. I have tried with jpg, tiff. And in idvd with fit to screen and no fit, as well different formats such as pal/ntsc.

Is your only option a dvd player to run the video? I recently used Photomagico and it worked pretty well and was really sharp, some exports more than others, but good nonetheless. If you have the option of running it off a mac laptop, I would suggest using Photomagico and exporting it as a Photomagico standalone player. It maintains functionality of the next/previous/pause controls (not that you'd really need it), but more importantly, it looks extremely sharp.

Yeah, in this case i couldnt as their big ass tv screens are built in to the wall, and it goes through their dvd player, which we were ni allowed to to touch or put cables in, has to go on a dvd format...

Then, unfortunately, asfaik, your limited to DVD resolution...720x480. If I am wrong (which I hope and someone corrects me) your in a world of suck with that limitation. :( :( :( Is there a way to find out if that DVD player "plays" photos? Just a thought.

edit - have you tried Keynote? I used that on my last big gig and it came out just fine. But again I used my mac to run the show. Might be something to try if you can encode in H264 or some such.

The thing is that there is a video guy as well, his stuff go on the same dvd, and the guys wanna show different parts at different times, the slide shows dont give the same versatility as a dvd menu system. We even tried to down size the fotos to 800 and 1080 but its the same crap. Our guess is that when the program renders for transitions etc it screws up the res big time. Im hoping someone have a specific soluton fo idvd, im not happy aboit going out and buy dvd studio pro 4, on which it renders fine....

Can't you use iMovie to make the movie in high def then burn it using iDVD?

I think you can, but its just "one more" step on an already very hectic day... Also my collegue thought that the compression of making it in Imovie would do the "same" thing to the pixels. - But I have not tried, However I have borrowed a copy of DVD Studio Pro to try it out tomorrow.

With that you basically just drag and drop the images straight out of PP.

As I have not heard of this problem from other people, I was sure the Fault was mine. However I think I have tweaked every setting and still no go.....:) :(

Yeah not sure, all I know is I have made plenty of HD movies through iMovie with no issue at all. Here is an example of one I made a while back: http://gallery.me.com/msauk#100135

Never tried it through iDVD though.

You don't want to do this through iDVD or iMovie. You should do this under Aperture and display them as a Slide Show. The benefits of this is that you (1) get to use the gpu, (2) take advantage of Quartz Extreme, (3) can put the images for display from the Project into an Album for the slide show, apply batch changes (e.g. vignetting), (5) add music, (6) crossfades, (7) timed or manual advance and (8 ) use profiling to the projector (provided the projector sends its profile info to your Mac).

Edit: Oops, I just saw this - never mind.

I think you need to export the images as no larger than 720 pixels wide or tall then use iMove/iDVD. You're bumping into the limits of the DVD standard.

Funny thing, I have done it now with Dvd Studio pro 4 - exactly the same images and its a world of difference... How weird is that.....!

Laterally thinking - have you thought of a projector and screen?

Go to iMovie first and create the movie with pics from your Aperture library - no export necessary. Add effects (Ken Burns), music....When your have finished, go to 'share' and export to quicktime. Then from there go to iDVD and create a new project, from here you can choose standard or widescreen. Pick a theme, then add your movie.....you can also add a slideshow to the menu so you can have both the movie you created and the pics as a slide show (without any effects like Ken Burns). Don't forget that you can also add music to the theme screen as well as an additional upgrade. If you have iWeb, you can post the movie in seconds.

Here is a movie and webpage I created last weekend: http://web.me.com/shanef3/Trash_the_Dress/Movie.html

I also watched this movie on my 50 inch widescreen TV and it was perfect....also projected at my photo club through a projector to an 8 foot screen and it was perfect.

By all means you should, the more you do it the faster it becomes. The only suggestion beyond trying it before hand is to take notes of what you did and what works - you never want to disappoint a client or stumble to do something correctly while they are watching.
