I'm writing a small piece and want to type what a shutter sounds like, but for the life of me can't think or find anything.
Any ideas? :)

Context:
"We crept politely around all the fixtures and fittings, the lovely silence only marred every minute or so with a/the "[NOISE]" of a camera shutter"

Depends on the model... my 20D was a bit "whack, whack, whack"... my 1D III is a bit "chhk"!

...if that makes sense and is what you were asking... or did you mean how to sensibly describe the sound? :p

:D If it was anything like my 20D you'd need to type it in uppercase too :D

Sensible would be lovely :) :D

What sort of context are you describing it in?

Sharp clap?

Sharp report?

Clicking?

Clicking and whirring, if you have film?

Are you picturing it as a loud camera or a quiet camera?

Interesting choices of words, I was trying to type the actual noise. Like "tffftchk" or something. Perhaps I should just use a proper word like you suggest.
A 1D Mark III noise would be perfect :D

WIth the "click/snap" of a camera shutter.

Why try to be onomatopoeic? What's wrong with "the clicking of a camera shutter" or, if you wish more drama, "the click-click-click of a camera shutter"?

I always think that 1 series bodies make more of a flick or flutter sound than a click.

The lovely silence only marred every minute or so with the mechanical flick of a camera shutter

The lovely silence only marred every minute or so with the mechanical flutter of a camera shutter

Just wanted to try and throw a sound-effect into my post for a change. I settled on kerchunk. :D

Clicking or slapping. Or, you could go Batman and call it the "POW", "BIF", "THWACK!" Or Dr. Seuss and call it the slippity-slappity slap slap. Or Poe and call it the "click click clicking. Clicking in your camera box".

But yeah, clicking or slapping. :)

Hmm, depends on which camera you're using, I suppose. The 5D goes *clock*, the 50D goes *clack* and the 400D goes *ch-week*.

Did I just sound like Trekkie there?

And what sound does your communicator make when you use it to take a picture?

Aw, man, that's a tough one. It's kind of a "djweep" with a high-pitched whine in the background.
