I'm fairly new to photography, so please criticize! I was bored and took this tonight with the 50mm f/1.8, flash + omnibounce
Manual
ISO - 200
AV - 3.2
TV - 1/6
thanks,
David

Come on David, a photographer with digital equipment should NEVER be bored. Not a bad photo but there appears to be a fogging or OOF in the upper edge.

That was what I was going for with a small DOF and taken on the angle.
Would it be more effective with a longer DOF??
Thanks, David

A shallower depth of field is only really effective when you have the subject on a more straighht on angle. (taking the picture ground level and looking down the toolbox.)
Try taking it again and then make it black and white.

I agree with Michaelmjc - except about the B&W. You can try it in B&W and it may work with the tools, but I find color much more interesting for most shots.
BTW - lighting isn't bad at all.

sorry, so for this composition, would you recommend increasing the DOF.
I don't like straight on objects, so I'd prefer to stay away from that...I'll try both later. and post what I come up with.
I do like the colours, so again, I'd prefer to work in colour for this shot.
thanks for the input, it's helping me a lot!

Make it entirely in focus and its a winner.
