This is Thomas. he is two months old. this picture was taken with lots of natural light and one slave flash and umbrella. I used a soft focus filter post production. I like it but I dont know. Todays shoot was VERY hard for me. out of 70 shots I took I like maybe five or six. I guess its all a learning experience when you are just starting out. Luckly I didnt charge her for the shoot.(trying to get a portfolio done) I hope she likes at least some of them.
anyway what do you all think.....

It looks way to soft for my liking, but that's only my opinion.

I use a sigma 35-80mm (I know should have gotten the canon) I have tons to learn I know that I need a bigger CF card because I ran out of room. 1Gig here I come. I am getting very discouraged. Everyone else I have shown these too love the soft one. I like soft focus pictures but thats just me. I havent shown them to my client yet. I am going to give her all the pictures on a CDR the original and the PS ones. She knew that I am learning so she is ok with not getting too many good shots. But the more I shoot the better I get I guess. This is a hard thing to learn I dont think you can just pick up a good camera and become a great photographer I know it takes work to be good. I hope to be there some day. My love for Photography will keep me going.

Jennifer,
not at all!
It's a great first try and the base picture is really great.
Take a look at that 75$ Canon EF 50/1.8 lens.
It will allow you to get a picture with a soft background while the main subject is in focus.
Best regards,
Andy
