Both used off camera flash, unfortunately the only diffuser I have is the built in one. I had a difficult time on the second getting the shoulders of the bottle to show well, and the text is difficult to being curved and reflective.

for using bare flashes you did an awesome job! I can clearly see unacceptable highlights and shadows, but considering you did it with bare flash......you really did crazy well!

The label in the second shot looks like quite a challenge to get right. I'll be interested to see if anyone has any suggestions for that one -- trial and error, I suppose.

So the first was lit by a flash to the left and one behind and to the right. My intention was to:
1. Light the bottle and case (a diffuser give a softer more even light in the future, right?)
2. Get a little "glow" in the bottle itself which didn't work at all. How would I want to do that in the future?

The second had it's secondary light under the glass table to try to do the same thing, as well as wash the wall. I think it worked a bit better, and the glass has a nice look because of it. However, the etchings and label are both on curved surfaces and difficult to capture.it was actually quite accidental, I wasn't going for the high key look, but it happened after moving and adjusting the bottom flash so I kept it. I wonder if powering down the under light and bouncing the main light off a wall or samething would more evenly light the bottle?

Any other advice, comments, etc. for a newbie? :)
