Try reading the posts over in the digital video section. There's quite a bit of info there. My PC is slower than yours with less RAM and my videos play fine with VLC player. Maybe it's just the player you are trying to use??

This has helped some people with VLC: http://www.snappertalk.com/index.php/20090129/5d-mkii-video-playback-with-vlc/

Change the playback settings on VLC. It's what's causing the lag.

I just saw this, and moved it to Digital Video section. Next time you need a Moderator, just click on the white triangle under your avatar to report you need one of us.

And I haven't really tried my 5DII for video. I'm nervous to. :)

when quad cores are made, all 4 cores are not created equally. 1 is always slower than the rest. when the slowest of the 4 dont meet certain standards, they are thrown out.
triple cores are quad cores with the weakest core disabled instead of throwing the chip out to save the manufacturer money. triple cores also overclock better than a lot of quad cores i believe, as overclocking is limited by the weakest core, which in the case of a triple core, is disabled
