If thew company was paying... yeah, but if it was me paying the big bucks they want for the climb... I'd pass and I'd get up at first light and catch the ferry to Hunters Hill and back etc and shoot the bridge silhouette against the rising sun etc, for what... maybe $5 a ticket? I have promised myself this little luxury as soon as I get time off.

Carzee,
i have caught the bus over that thing for years now, but finally getting up there for both the bridge climb and pylon lookout gave me a whole different perspective of the city. Well worth the hefty price, something you have to do at least once in your life.

RockOne, those shots are from the bridge pylon. You get free tickets to go up there after you have done your bridge climb.
Yes, all roads lead back to the mothership hehe.

Skade,
you MUST do it if you are ever here. You can scope out all the places in Sydney you need to go to from up there.
The whole climb takes about 3 hours (about 45 minutes of that is to get suited up and prep'ed about safety procedures). Its a nice leisurely climb so you can take in the awesome views.

Hehe nah you'll be right, my fitness is pretty poor and i made it ok, its a pretty relaxed pace, theres not much distance to cover. There was even a 100 year old lady that made it too, so if she can do it..... :D

That's a real cool idea. More of these monumental bridges should be designed to be open to the public.

they are lovely shots
I love the second one especially
it's terrific
I walked across that beautiful bridge every evening when I was there
and rode a double decker train across it
every type of transport , which went across it
but walking and looking down at what must be the most beautiful harbour in the world was the very best

love the shots

Hey wow,you get to wear star trek costumes too! count me in!!
Seriously i too am so happy that they are offering such tours these days.
When (if??) i ever get to sydney again i will definitely do this.
It reminds me that brisbane's story bridge is now doing climbs as well*.I must remember to do one soon
*There was a bizare court case that temporarly stopped them starting up the story bridge climbs.Residents living under and around the ends of the bridge were up in arms about all the noise likely from the climbers.
This is from people that live under a 6 lane (which expands to about 10 lanes at the ends) clunky bridge with huge amounts of traffic

Ron,
yeah that's awesome, i'd love to get up to Brisbane and do that climb too.
I actually lived at the Medina apartments just under the Storey Bridge for about 4 months when i was working at Queesland Rail in 2002. Great City.
Some people just like to complain about anything and everything, can't have commoners wandering about their million dollar waterfront properties. :p

Dante King,
thanks for your feedback.
The climb costs $160AUD ($185AUD Weekends) or so for the day sessions and $225AUD for a twilight one. A tad pricey but you won't regret doing it.
Here is some info on the climb: http://www.bridgeclimb.com.au/

hey - you can see my office in north sydney in picture #2 (next to AAMI) :D
the twighlight climb is great on a partly cloudy day. and if you don't have time to climb (or the nerve) the pylon is around 3 bucks. the view is much better on the bridge itself though.

Oh what building is that? I used to work at Deloitte on Miller St.
It's a real shame you can't take you camera onto the Bridge Climb itself, would get some awesome photos from up there. Though i guess the cars beneath probably wouldn't appreciate the odd lens (or other camera accesory) through the windshield. :D

Beautiful part of the state around those parts, you're a lucky guy. Much nicer commute to work that fighting the traffic in Sydney Metro area.

Haha yeap, theres no escape!! From start to finish you are attached to the rail
The ball thing that attaches your rope to the railing is actually pretty cool, the best way to describe it, is that it looks like the ball part of a Flail. :p

Yes. (Short answer)
...and the stairs are welded to the bridge. Welds are metal. Metals -way down at the atomic level- are mostly empty space. (Too much caffiene answer);)

I went thru the climb like 4 years ago and I thought they wouldn't allow any attendees carrying cameras, mainly for 2 reasons:
1. That you might drop it resulting in some accident to the cars travelling beneath your climb;
2. that they may make $ out of you by selling photos of your very expensive experience.
Personally, I didn't enjoy the climb that much.

So where are the pics from the top???
No way I would do that, there is a reason people have fear of heights! :)

We had a nice time on the climb, but yeah no cameras for tourists -- only the employees get to bring them and they only use them at set places. (At least they use a Canon G7 w/ an L-bracket mounted on some sort of arm.) Pics are only of people with Sydney in the background vs. any sort of landscape.
As far as safety is concerns, as already mentioned on the thread you are tethered to the bridge the whole time so no worries there. As far as level of fitness -- it's not at all demanding. Frequent stops, shallow inclines, and some stairs, but all very easy.
Twilight is a great time to do it. Can't bring the camera, but guess it'll have to be one of those times you see the scenery without a small viewfinder!

I have done this as well, and to be honest, I thought it was going to be a complete waste of time and money.
I couldn't have been more wrong. What a great experience it was.
Oh, and nice shots too!
